Job Description

Single Source Technologies, representing Makino as well as other high end machine tool products, is a single-source provider of machine tools, engineering services, tooling, supplies, application support and customer service throughout North America.

The Opportunity

The SST General Manager is responsible for all activities involved in selling Makino complementary and consumable products and services, managing a technical center and activities and involved in after sale customer support for the SST North region.  The SST General Manager is accountable for achieving and ideally, exceeding, the SST performance requirements for market share targets, unit sales, new customers, prospect generation, and “hit” ratio (won/loss ratio) for all Makino sales in the SST channel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accountable For:

  • Deliver or exceed market share targets for all platforms, SST platform unit sales targets, new customer acquisition targets, and existing customer retention targets working jointly with SST RSM’s
  • Establish and maintain a disciplined and rigorous approach to the Makino sales process including standards for prospecting, funnel management, and the sales portion of after sales support. Assure that all key tools (SLX, SMQS, product tools) are used effectively and on a timely basis by all sales people
  • Work jointly with marketing to create robust processes for lead generation in the SST’s overall and individually and for keeping existing customers “close” to Makino
  • Build capability within the sales team regarding regional and territory sales planning, penetration plan development (industry segment and individual account), lead follow-up, and effective prospect/customer engagement throughout the entire selling process. Create the “feared” sales force and the courageous sales person.
  • Manage and lead the local application engineers and service engineers and manager(s)
  • Manage and lead the sales capability development and coaching for the sales team
  • Monitor sales team and regional performance and develop specific interventions to improve sales performance when there are identified problem trends
  • Build a partnership with the SST RSM so that the partnership relationship of RSM and SST GM are working as a unified, single team
  • Jointly with the RSM provides a framework and specific guidance on
    • Specific regional performance issues and opportunities and how these can be addressed
    • specific individual performance issues and opportunities and how these might be addressed
  • Provide specific leadership guidance to the Makino RSM’s regarding how they might improve their leadership and engagement of the SST’s and the SST sales staff

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is strongly preferred; MBA desirable.
  • Direct Sales experience in Capital Equipment.
  • 8-10 years in the machine tool industry preferred.
  • 3-5 years in Sales Management with Marketing responsibility.
